Glen Mason

Glen Mason and 5 colleagues cycled 400 miles around the Jurassic Coast taking 4 days and raising over £500 for the Children’s Fund. Wearing our cycling top’s, they also raised awareness for our charity.
This year they will be cycling 1,380 miles from Poole, Dorset to Auschwitz, Poland over 14 days. The Journey will take in part of the ‘Liberation Route Europe’ to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. This route is an international remembrance trail taking in the poignant sites through England, France, Belgium, Germany, The Czech Republic and Poland, with the ride concluding at the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial museum. This is as far as we are aware, the first time any military personnel have attempted to cycle this route.

Kelly Deardon

Kelly Deardon put on another fantastic family funday in Helston, Cornwall. The weather was perfect and with over 500 people attending not only did she raise an amazing £1030.99 but it was a great opportunity for us to talk to people and make them aware of the support we are able to offer to serving and ex serving Naval families.

Royal Naval Association

The RNA is a wonderful organisation for shipmates and oppos. There are branches all around the UK and we are so grateful to the many of them that send us in donations.
https://royal-naval-association.co.uk/
With over 20,000 members across 300+ branches in the UK and overseas, they are a family of current and former Naval Service personnel, relatives and supporters of our country’s Royal Navy.
Whether they are catching up with friends at our regular social events, fundraising, advising on welfare and employment matters, or just providing an arm around the shoulder, their natural willingness to help others stems from the tradition and camaraderie that only Naval Service life can instil. Everything they do is inextricably linked to our core values:

Their core values:
Unity
Shared backgrounds and equality in rank. We share the same bonds, the same mindset, and even the same language (Jackspeak!). We are all equal. We are the heart and soul of the RNA.

Loyalty
To each other and our dependants. We will always support and look out for each other. Our loyalty is to all our shipmates, our local communities, the personnel and dependants of the Naval Service, along with other charities or organisations with naval connections.

Patriotism
We are proud to serve and proud to represent our country and the Naval Service. Our pride in serving our country never leaves us. Nor do we forget those who have fallen for our country or who fight now. We are deeply honoured to represent them on both a national and international level.

Comradeship
Friends in fun, fellowship and need. Your shipmates will always be here for you, whether it’s about a job, ideas for a fun day out or just an arm around the shoulder. We will never leave you or your dependents in despair.

Seafarers UK

Seafarers UK are proud to have supported the Naval Children’s Charity almost without interruption since both charities have been in existence. The work of the charity in ensuring that real need is met for children of Naval and RFA families, whether it be financial, health, education, respite or bereavement is incredible – often making a profound impact for families in difficult circumstances.

Seafarers UK is a charity that has been helping people in the maritime community for over 100 years, by providing vital support to seafarers in need and their families. We do this by giving grants to organisations and projects that make a real difference to people’s lives, across the Merchant Navy, Fishing Fleets, Royal Navy and Royal Marines. in 2019 we awarded 53 grants totalling £2.2m+ to 43 maritime welfare charities.

A thank you

I had no idea this level of support was available but it has helped lift a huge weight from my shoulders. Time spent with my son can now be enjoyed to its fullest extent due to release of pressure, stress and anxiety. I am overwhelmed by the support I have been given.

A grateful mum

One of our mums has been in hospital a long way from home, we have helped with helping her son see her during this time. Her son has special needs so it was very difficult for him to understand why mum was away and to cope with not seeing her. She wrote this note to thank us.
“Last weekend’s visit. J (Son) saw me standing and taking a few steps with aids. He got very emotional as he cannot remember me walking it has been 6 years. J being able to visit me at weekends whilst I am in a specialist hospital in London over 120 miles from home. I have been here since the 1st July. Hopefully but not confirmed yet I will be home end Sept/Oct this year. J became very withdrawn as he could only come to visit once a month due to financial constraints. Since being awarded this grant he has become happier, engaging again, joining in on thing’s at home and looking forward to coming to see me at the weekends. It’s wonderful to see my son and husband each week but more amazing to see him happy again. Thank you.”
